Instead of plowing through the turns this weekend at New Hampshire International Speedway, Hut Stricklin will likely be plowing through some of the 90 acres he owns behind his fabricating shop in suburban Charlotte, N.C.

Once again, Hut Stricklin looks to the future, and the 41-year-old Calera driver is unsure of what is next. For the third straight year, the Winston Cup season has ended early for Stricklin, who lost his ride at Bill Davis Racing this week.

Alabama racers give reason to cheer again

05/12/02

Finally, for Alabama race fans, something to cheer about, and it's not the longest of shots. Not that this is a high level, like the standards set by Alabama racers years ago, but the season is turning into something of a breakout year. Hut Stricklin of Calera is regularly cracking the top 15 in Winston Cup races. Steve Grissom of Gadsden is back in the ranks. Steady Rick Crawford of Mobile is chasing a championship in NASCAR's truck series.

Another strong finish for Stricklin

 04/22/02

TALLADEGA What's up with Hut? Lately, a lot.

Calera's Hut Stricklin seems to have turned a corner with his new race team and the same car he failed to qualify in at Daytona.Sunday's Aaron's 499 marked his second straight strong finish. He finished 15th last week at Martinsville, 11th on Sunday.Stricklin says his aggressive driving and recent success may have something to do with his new equipment. His aggressive driving was noticed at Bristol a month ago. There was Stricklin battling, swapping paint, blocking leader Jeff Gordon to stay on the lead lap. A radio commentator even insinuated that Stricklin put Joe Nemechek into the wall.

One-man gang: Stricklin last link to racing dynasty

The Alabama Gang is sitting on a shiny countertop inside his team's hauler, with crew members fussing about, tinkering with a racecar's various gadgets and gewgaws. He is talking about a future full of promise -- "We've got high hopes for this year. I'll have a shot at winning races," he says -- and a past full of heartache. This is what it has come to: a one-man gang.

Hills Bros. brings Hut cup of kindness

02/24/02

ROCKINGHAM, N.C.  So how, the dismayed sponsor of a Winston Cup race team might ask, do you field one car that wins the Daytona 500 and another that doesn't even make the race?

Such a puzzle might have been on the minds of the head beans at Hills Bros. Coffee last week. Their car and driver Hut Stricklin went home from Daytona. Meanwhile, the largest television audience ever to see a NASCAR race, and never to see a Hills Bros. car, watched Stricklin's teammate Ward Burton win it.

Hut Stricklin, Hill Brothers get fresh start

HAMPTON, Ga. -- Count 50 stalls in the Winston Cup garage at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Count 51 race teams here. That left the newest outfit outside on the asphalt, servicing the car driven by Calera's Hut Stricklin.

There have been times like most every race weekend during the past five years when 51 cars at the track would make for a scary qualifying day for Stricklin. Without a lap fast enough to make the 43-car starting field, business was over for drivers on the fringe. Not this time, not for Stricklin, whose story of a career reborn is among the most telling of this late season.

Sun Shining on Stricklin

Talk about being in the catbird’s seat.
With all the problems surrounding sponsorship that is plaguing teams in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series garage these days, and all the drivers that are looking for a ride for next season, Hut Stricklin’s situation was certainly an anomaly.
Unbelievable is more the word for it.

Stricklin finally has a home
11-01-2001

Hut Stricklin and sponsor Hills Bros. Coffee closed a deal with Bill Davis Racing earlier this week to put Stricklin in a Dodge next season as a teammate to Ward Burton. Stricklin, who was let go last week by Junie Donlavey, is understandably excited about the new ride. "First off, Bill and his wife, Gail, are great people," Stricklin said. "They have a great name in the sport and that's really the first and foremost thing to me. Aside from that, they've got a really good group of people. It's a large organization and it runs like a well-oiled machine.

Stricklin leaves Donlavey's team

Hut Stricklin and his Hills Bros. Coffee sponsorship, both of whom left Junie Donlavey's No. 90 last week, will be part of Bill Davis Racing in 2002. Stricklin will drive the No. 93 Dodge, replacing Dave Blaney, who is moving to the No. 77 Ford, taking the place of Robert Pressley. Hills Bros. Coffee issued a statement regarding its decision to stick with Stricklin: As a member of the NASCAR family, Hills Bros Coffee Racing, its 500 employees and driver Hut Stricklin, we were shocked this week to learn of Hut's termination from the No. 90 car and its team. Hut has been the cornerstone of our Hills Bros Coffee Racing program since we joined the NASCAR family in 2000 and we don't want to sever that tie between Hut, our company and his fans."

Hut lands on his seat

AVONDALE, Ariz. A twisting week of career turns has ended for Calera racer Hut Stricklin, bumped from one Winston Cup team, then landing with the best ride he has had in years.Stricklin will join Bill Davis Racing for the 2002 Winston Cup season. He'll wheel the No. 93 Dodge with driver Ward Burton as a teammate. Without a doubt this is my best shot in a while," Stricklin said. "We could be competitive every week.

Bill Davis Signs Hut Stricklin and Hills Bros Coffee

New York, N.Y., Oct. 26 — Bill Davis Racing will field the No. 93 Dodges for Hut Stricklin in 2002, ending the long period of rumors and speculation concerning Stricklin's move.

"This new agreement with Bill Davis Racing really makes the Hills Bros Racing Team a triple threat in next year's Winston Cup circuit," said Henk de Back, president of Sara Lee Coffee. "First we're able to keep our long-standing and prosperous relationship with NASCAR driver Hut Stricklin who helps connect our brand with the race fans who follow his career. Second, we have the best opportunity to win with a powerhouse race team and proven winner in Bill Davis. And third, we capitalize on the chemistry that has been created between Hut, our trade and consumers since we aligned with NASCAR."

Stricklin stunned by release

RICHMOND, Va. -- NASCAR Winston Cup veteran Hut Stricklin is in better shape than many Silly Season players -- he at least has a sponsorship package in his back pocket while he waits to see where he lands for the 2002 season.
But he doesn’t have a ride any more in 2001, and he is less than thrilled about Tuesday’s turn of events that resulted in him being pitched out of Donlavey Racing’s No. 90 Ford for this weekend’s Checker Auto Parts 500 at Phoenix International Raceway.
